Contemporary evidence-based techniques for the conservative treatment of medial tibial periostitis: an integrative review of the state of the art

Abstract

Medial tibial periostitis is one of the most prevalent overuse injuries in runners and athletes exposed to repetitive impact loads. This paper presents an integrative review of the state of the art regarding contemporary physiotherapy techniques for the conservative treatment of this clinical condition. Strategies based on load management, progressive strengthening, biomechanical rehabilitation, neuromuscular training, manual therapy, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, and functional monitoring technologies were analyzed. Recent evidence suggests that individualized multimodal programs show better clinical outcomes than purely passive interventions.
