Press Release: Launching of LatArXiv - A New Preprints Platform for the Latin American Scientific Community

2024-02-02

We are pleased to announce the launch of LatArXiv, a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to the publication of preprints with a focus on research conducted in and about the Latin American context. LatArXiv emerges as a response to the growing need for a space that promotes open access, rapid dissemination, and early positioning of academic research in the region.

LatArXiv is not limited to the Latin American community; it also welcomes contributions from a broader spectrum such as the Ibero-American and other regions, as long as the study object is related to Latin America. The platform offers independent authors the possibility to publish their preprint article and related versions at no cost; and to journals that share LatArXiv's objectives, the possibility to request dedicated URLs for their preprint contributions through a membership.

A distinctive feature of LatArXiv is the publication of preprints directly from the author's original files, without prior modifications to their publication. Although the contents are not subject to peer review, a basic review is performed to ensure the integrity and appropriateness of the materials. This approach facilitates a simple and fast submission process, supporting our mission to promote open access and allowing the research to be immediately citable through a unique DOI provided by Crossref.

At LatArXiv, we value interaction and academic dialogue; therefore, we allow authors to receive public or private comments on their works, thus fostering a collaborative and constructive academic community. The platform is supported by an advisory board of active academics who provide feedback on its operation and advise on new submissions.

LatArXiv is a project funded by Paideia Publishing Services, with significant financial support thanks to member institutions. For more information, contact us at [email protected].

We invite researchers, academics, and students interested in Latin American research to explore LatArXiv, contribute with their preprints, and join this exciting movement towards greater access and visibility of academic research in Latin America and beyond.
