Is it feasible to develop technology in an academic center in Argentina?: An approach from the perception of its members

Technological development (TD) is considered an engine of economic growth of nations. Academic centers with technical capabilities are key players in innovation and TD processes. However, considering a TD policy in an academic center requires the evaluation of multiple factors. One of them is to know the capacity of the center and its perception in this regard.
The case of a state academic center in Argentina was analyzed, which arises from a faculty that trains engineers (half of its staff) and maintains a relationship with technology companies. The perception of the members regarding the capacity and involvement with the WP at a personal and institutional level was evaluated using two instruments: 1) an anonymous survey that was disseminated to all the members and 2) interviews with the institution's representatives.
It was observed that there is a majority perception that the center develops technology (63%), however, only 7% of the respondents recognize it as their main activity.
This self-perception of capacity for the TD is limited by the academic evaluation system, the participation of its members in multiple other activities and the lack of policies that promote its possibility.
