Use of ozonated olive oil as an adjuvant therapy in the management of diabetic foot lesions: a series of three cases

Introduction: Diabetic foot is a serious complication of diabetes. Ozonized olive oil is emerging as an adjunctive therapy due to its antimicrobial and healing properties. Methods: Retrospective case series of three male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and necrotic foot ulcers. After surgical debridement and antibiotic therapy, topical ozonated extra virgin olive oil was applied three times daily. Results: All three cases showed favorable evolution. Infection control, granulation tissue formation, and complete healing were achieved within three to four months. Discussion: The results are consistent with the literature supporting topical ozone therapy. Ozonized oil contributes to the comprehensive management of diabetic foot through its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and microcirculatory-enhancing effects. Conclusions: The topical use of ozonated olive oil as an adjunct proved to be beneficial for the healing of diabetic foot ulcers in this case series, supporting its inclusion in comprehensive management protocols.References
