Breast Cancer Pink Route (RRCS): a proposal for the navigation of cancer patients in Montería, Córdoba

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of mortality and morbidity among women in Colombia, a situation exacerbated in regions like Montería, Córdoba, where social, economic, geographic, and administrative limitations persist, affecting access to and continuity of cancer care. The objective of this study was to identify the main barriers to access related to breast cancer and to propose a patient navigation plan adapted to the regional context. A literature review was conducted using scientific databases and grey literature, complemented by a semi-structured interview with a representative of the League Against Cancer – Córdoba Chapter. Based on this review, phenomena such as significant delays in the diagnostic-therapeutic process, low screening coverage, and multiple structural barriers were identified, ultimately leading to diagnosis at advanced stages. As a result, the Breast Cancer Pink Route (RRCS) patient navigation system was proposed, focused on strengthening early detection, streamlining access to health services, and optimizing comprehensive patient support through strategies such as cancer navigation, risk stratification, priority pathways, and telemedicine. It is concluded that the implementation of comprehensive strategies adapted to the regional context will contribute to improving timely access to and the quality of cancer care.
