Introduction. Diagnosing any type of anxiety requires meeting specific criteria, which require the presence of symptoms associated with this pathology for a specific period of time. We present the case of a 19-year-old young man presenting with moderate to severe anxiety symptoms and misdiagnosed mild depressive symptoms. Case: Ángel (name withheld) is a 19-year-old student who comes to the clinic due to self-reported trust issues that have caused symptoms associated with anxiety and depression. Assessment Phase: The assessment was conducted using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale (GADS), and the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI). These inventories serve the purpose of measuring anxiety and depressive symptoms in the patient. Treatment Implementation: The eight phases of EMDR were carried out, divided into five sessions (detailed in Table 1). Discussion: Within the aforementioned graphs, a significant variation is observed in the initial and final values of the EADG, BAI, and BDI tests. Conclusion: In the present study, EMDR was presented as an effective and rapid treatment in a specific case of a young man with a misdiagnosis whose symptoms associated with anxiety and depression worsened over time.
