Glacier retreat is one of the most evident manifestations of current climate change and represents a significant threat to the global freshwater supply. Objective: This study analyzes global scientific output related to glacier retreat and its impact on water sources. Materials and methods: A bibliographic search was conducted using the Scopus database. A total of 109 published documents were identified, evaluating characteristics such as: type of publication, collaboration between authors, most productive countries and institutions, scientific journals, and number of citations received. Results: China ranks as the leading country in terms of the number of publications, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom. The Chinese Academy of Sciences stands out as the institution with the highest scientific output. The most cited article deals with the effects of permafrost thawing in Tibet. Conclusions: This study provides a comprehensive overview of research trends surrounding glacier retreat, demonstrating a growing interest among the scientific community in addressing the hydrological challenges posed by this phenomenon. The information gathered can be useful as a basis for future research and adaptation strategies to climate change.
