Implementation of Universal Design for Learning (DUA) in higher education: challenges and opportunities

Higher education faces significant challenges in implementing inclusive and accessible strategies for diverse student populations. This research aimed to analyze the challenges and opportunities in implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in higher education institutions. A mixed sequential explanatory methodological design was used over 18 months, with a sample of 35 participants including teachers, students, and administrators from five educational institutions. Structured questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and documentary analysis were applied. Results showed a 23% increase in academic performance and 35% in student participation in UDL environments. Teaching training needs were identified in 68% of faculty members and digital infrastructure limitations in 72% of institutions. UDL implementation generated debate about the need for institutional transformation and investment in technological resources. It was concluded that UDL success requires a systemic approach integrating teacher training, technological resources, and institutional support.
