What is a preprint?▼
Preprints are versions of scientific articles or manuscripts that are published before going through peer review. They are documents that have not been officially accepted by scientific journals but that their authors or representatives consider that they should be published due to their relevance and contribution to the community. This type of manuscript is deposited on a preprint server.
What are the advantages of preprint publication?▼
- Increased use of citations: citations are more common in preprint manuscripts.
- Increased dissemination and visibility: being published in preprint, the article increases its popularity among academics and scientists, since access is open and fast.
- Findings are quickly reflected: the findings and results collected in the paper are quickly exposed to the community, which gives the opportunity to evidence current research without the need to delay their knowledge to the scientific society for study.
- Opportunity for collaboration: other scientists can contribute comments and support the work of their colleagues.
- There is the possibility of establishing original ideas and discoveries: preprint papers can make key discoveries known to the scientific community.
What is a preprint server?▼
Preprint servers are digital repositories where public access to the original manuscripts is allowed before peer review takes place.
What are the advantages of publishing on a preprint server?▼
- They are compatible with academic journals: many academic and scientific journals have in their editorial policies the use of preprint servers by the author.
- Preprint servers can be a window to document discovery: they allow publishers to obtain or identify potential articles for their journals.
- They help authors to improve their manuscripts: by being on these platforms, there is the possibility of receiving comments and reviewing them, leading to the incorporation of improvements to the peer review process in the journal.
What is LatArXiv?▼
LatArXiv is a multidisciplinary platform that offers a preprint service, focused on disseminating and making early versions of research papers citable. LatArXiv is an open platform with the objective of disseminating and achieving early positioning of research conducted in the Latin American context. LatArXiv can also include preprints from a broader context such as Ibero-America and other geographic regions but with the Latin American context as the object of study.
Are articles peer-reviewed?▼
Contents in LatArXiv are not subject to peer review, but may receive feedback from readers. LatArXiv preprints are created directly from the author's original files and are not modified before publication. We conduct a basic check for plagiarism, offensive language, unscientific and inappropriate content, and will exclude materials that may pose a health or safety risk if identified. Beyond this check, files are not edited or peer reviewed. Please see our Policies for more information.
What are the advantages of using LatArXiv?▼
At LatArXiv we encourage open access and rapid dissemination of scholarly content so that others can quickly evaluate and improve it.
What are the main features of LatArXiv?▼
- It is Multidisciplinary: we cover all research disciplines.
- It is Open access: All preprints are published under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license and authors retain copyright and receive credit for their work, while allowing anyone to read and use their work.
- Use DOI via Crossref: Each preprint will be registered with a unique digital object identifier issued by Crossref. This makes them instantly citable and provides a permanent link to the article. New versions of preprints receive a different DOI.
- Comment on any article: Authors can receive public or private comments from colleagues on their work.
- The submission process is very simple: Submitting a preprint requires only basic information, and our team of editors will assist you with the process and publish your preprint as soon as possible.
Who can submit an article to LatArXiv?▼
The different journals that meet LatArXiv's objectives and wish to do so, can request a dedicated URL for their preprint contributions by acquiring a membership. Authors who wish to make available a preprints article that is not being evaluated in any of our member journals can do it freely and immediately through this way. Authors have the possibility to update their papers, as long as the updated content has not been published online.
